A Prayer For Las Vegas

Our hearts are heavy in the aftermath of the horrific tragedy in Las Vegas in which dozens were killed and hundreds were injured on Sunday night. Please join RZIM in praying for the city, for comfort for the loved ones of the victims, and for strength for those who are on the front lines of helping the hurting community.

“What happened in Las Vegas was a combination of a tragedy and an atrocity. So many killed, so many wounded. Whatever possessed the man to do this and inflict such pain?,” reflected Ravi Zacharias. “Every day brings news that seems harder to contain. Apart from offering help, we get on our knees and ask our Lord to do His work in the hearts of the grieving in a way that only He can do. Our prayers and support go out to the ones affected. It is hard to even imagine what the families are going through. Lord, hear our prayer!”

RZIM’s Nathan Betts offers this prayer of lament and hope:

Dear Father,

You are one who knows sorrow. You are acquainted with grief.
In this time of loss, comfort us.
In our fear, bring peace.
In our anger, point us to you, God of justice.
Embrace us, Lord, with your love.

For those enduring the loss of life, surround them with your presence.
Let those hurting sense and know you, the God of hope.
For those of us mourning, help us to come close to you; not against you.

Please shine your light of love into this dark time.
Help us embody your love, grace, and compassion.
We need you. We confess that you, Lord Jesus, are our only hope.
Give us courage to remain faithful to you.
In your mercy and grace, hear our prayer.
Amen.
